Glossop Heritage Centre

Glossop Heritage Centre has been created by local heritage enthusiasts who wish to share the pleasures and interests of the town and surrounding countryside with a wider public.

The centre is housed in a building close to Norfolk Square in the centre of Glossop and contains a permanent exhibition about the area's history, plus an extensive local archive and an Art Gallery. The permanent exhibition illustrates the area's past, from pre-history to the twentieth century, emphasising the strong influence on the town's economic and social structure made by the Dukes of Norfolk and the Victorian mill-owners. The exhibition features an authentic Victorian Kitchen and numerous historical costumes.

Regularly changing exhibitions are also held, usually illustrating specific aspects of the town's development and local subjects of general interest - natural history, arts and crafts, sporting activities, schools, family history, local history and the influence of the railways.
